Patricia Ritacco and Bill Voller are two of a group of Cantata residents that participated in a ten-week Dramatic Writing course. These classes took place on Cantata’s campus and were run by Silk Road Rising, a professional Chicago theater company.
Patricia and Bill were taught writing techniques, such as story structure, character building, conflict sketching and setting placement. Patricia’s play is entitled “Petra” and follows the lives of an immigrant family from Lithuania. Bill’s play is entitled “Opposites Attract” and tells the story of a college student who falls in love with a women on the autism spectrum.
In December Patricia and Bill learned that, out of 200 applicants, their plays were selected to be performed in a showcase by professional actors. The performances will be taking place at a theater in downtown Chicago. Patricia and Bill are thrilled! Their family members and Cantata friends have already purchased their tickets to see the show.
If you are interested in seeing their plays you can contact the Silk Road Rising at www.silkroadrising.org. The theater is in the historic Chicago Temple building, just across from the Richard J. Daley Center.
